Living in Bethany, CT

Bethany is a small, primarily rural suburb of New Haven with about 5,200 residents. The town is dotted with farms, a golf course, abundant hiking trails, reservoirs and open space. Lots of recreational opportunities exist, and its quiet remote location is a primary attraction for those who live there. 

Housing is largely made up of single family homes on fairly large lots.  Due to its idyllic setting, it has been voted Best Small Town in Connecticut. Bethany residents had an 89% voter participation rate in the 2000 election.

The Bethany School District provides pre-kindergarten through grade 6 education. Amity Middle School-Bethany has 340 students in grades 7 and 8. It has a student to teacher ratio of 10 to 1 and state proficiency scores in the 80 percentile. Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge serves approximately 1,500 public school students from Woodbridge, Bethany and Orange. Long rated as one of the best schools in Connecticut, it consistently produces graduates with high test scores who go on to succeed in competitive colleges.

State Highways 63, 69 and 42 pass through town and provide a scenic commute into New Haven, where Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital are the largest employers.

Veterans Memorial Park has a lake with a beach for swimming, along with a soccer field, basketball court, tennis courts, pavilion and walking and hiking trails. Woodhaven Country Club is a 9 hole public course deep in the woods, and was voted one of the Best Places to Play by Golf Digest. Whitlock’s Book Barn has long been a destination for book lovers from all over the region. Clover Nook Farm provides a year round farmers market of seasonal fruits and vegetables. In close proximity is 5,000 acre Naugatuck State Park.
